LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer is open to a bipartisan deal to protect the lower minimum wage of servers and wait staff along with solving the paid sick time issue for small businesses.
The clock is ticking for a deal to be reached as the minimum wage will rise February 21 and the tipped wage will gradually rise over the next five years to be the same as regular minimum wage.
Whitmer has been in direct contact with Republican and Democratic party leaders in the House and Senate.
The House passed its bills to keep the tipped wage lower already this year, but the Senate bills are still pending.
The House is controlled by Republicans, and the Senate is controlled by Democrats.
