KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Wings defenseman Joey Raats is returning to the sport he loves after surviving having testicular cancer.
Raats was diagnosed in May 2022 after he finished his last professional season in the United Kingdom and he was declared cancer-free in June of this year.
K-Wings head coach Joel Martin learned of him through his college coach at Arizona State University and says Raats and his ability to overcome adversity brings a great message to the team.
The Kalamazoo Wings play their home opener next Saturday against Cincinnati.
