COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The father of 30-year-old Brianna McPherson is livid with a judge for sentencing the 80-year-old man who hit and killed her while he was driving drunk to just a year in prison.
McPherson was walking home after coaching a volleyball game for Comstock Public Schools when she was hit.
George Meskil had a blood-alcohol level of 0.124 at the time of the crash on North 26th Street near Comstock Middle School in September 2023.
Her father, Guy Cherry, says Brianna has not received justice for losing her life, adding she was just 30 with three daughters.
Meskil pled no contest to the charges and Kalamazoo County Assistant Prosecutor Jeff Williams says a trial was never held and the office made no recommendation on the sentence. He says that means they believed the court was in the position to look at the facts and make an appropriate decision.
He was sentenced September 9 and was also ordered to pay over $1,300 in fines.
