KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County board got their first look at the staff’s proposed budget for 2025 last night and will be asked to pass it next month.
Administrator Kevin Catlin says it’s just a proposal at this point.
The spending plan calls for drawing down nearly $30 million from their oversized $49.6 million fund balance for new and overdue projects.
He says they also plan to expand staff.
The county is anticipating an increase in tax revenues from homeowners, a jump in marijuana and state revenue sharing allocations, and a big boost from investments.
Two controversial items include a proposal to give commissioners a 100% raise in pay, and a request from the YWCA to renew their grant to the Reproductive Health Fund.
The budget will be on the agenda for their next two board meetings, with a final hearing and vote tentatively planned for October 15th.
