LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Minority Republicans in the Michigan House say the upcoming fiscal year budget has around $320-million in it to demolish the Renaissance Center in Detroit.
Representative Matt Hall of Richland leveled these accusations this week.
These Detroiters react to rumors the Renaissance Center might be torn down.
House Speaker Joe Tate’s office disputes the claim by Hall, with the Detroit Democrat’s office saying they are not aware of any plans to tear down the towers that were built in 1977 and have become an iconic staple for the city.
The towers will lose a major tenant when General Motors exits once the new high-rise is complete on the site of the former Hudson’s building.
Hall also discussed moving the money he says is being saved for the demolition to K-12 education in the state, which he says would be a much smarter move.
