KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Road Commission of Kalamazoo County has received a $25-million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Road commission board chairman Thom Brennan says the money will be used county-wide for improvements.
The money is from the U.S. DOT’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program and will be used to widen shoulders, add rumble strips and install left turn lanes in areas the road commission has concerns about.
Engineering consultant Hubbell, Roth, and Clark Incorporated surveyed more than 320 people about concerning areas, and over 180 identified some of the same parts of the county.
Officials say they believe the work will prevent three deaths, eight serious injuries, and 185 crashes every year.
