KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Following a rash of fires at a number of vacant homes and businesses, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says it arrested a 32-year-old man Thursday morning in connection to those recent fires across the city.
KDPS says the man is facing multiple felony arson charges.
“We are deeply grateful to the citizens of Kalamazoo for their information and tips throughout this investigation.” said Fire Marshal Scott Brooks. “While this arrest marks a major step forward, our work continues to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods.”
The cases will be presented to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
Last week KDPS battled two fires at vacant homes near each other on Humphrey Street and Sherwood Avenue, putting out the flames on Humphrey in about 15 minutes, but the second home was destroyed.
There were other fires June 11 and 18, July 4, and August 20 and 24.
