KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo has a pilot program to make streets safer for pedestrians and bicyclists, but one day a week, the bicyclists have trash bins to contend with.
The Lovell Street Cycle Track along the north side of the street between Pitcher Street and Stadium Drive reduced vehicle lane widths to ten feet and added a temporary curb with reflective posts for a bike lane.
Katie Bloom has lived in the city for about seven years and had these thoughts about the issue.
The city added blue markings where trash and recycle bins will be placed every week and that takes up several feet of the bike path.
The city says they have limited room for a wide variety of uses and hope people work with them to accomplish all the uses.
