STURGIS TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A 32-year-old Sturgis man was killed Monday morning when his motorcycle crashed head on into a SUV as he was trying to pass two vehicles on U.S. 12 near Shimmel Road in St. Joseph County.
Michigan State Police troopers from the Marshall Post say the crash happened at about 7:00 a.m..
They say according to their preliminary investigation, the motorcyclist was traveling west on U.S. 12 when he tried to pass a car and a semi-tractor trailer.

Speed and improper passing are believed to be factors in the crash which shut down U.S. 12 for awhile to allow for processing and cleanup.
The names of the those involved in the crash were not released by the State Police. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the St. Joseph County Sheriffs Department and LifeCare. The crash is still under investigation.
