KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Kalamazoo will start distributing free water filters in the Edison neighborhood starting today.
Staff will go to homes from 9 a.m. to noon today and be back September 6, 13, 20, and 27 along with October 4 and 11 with a goal of giving the filters to 500 homes each day.
The filters are being offered to help cut the dangers of possible lead poisoning from the water, even though the city system does not have lead in its source or water mains.
Lead pipes are possible in a home’s plumbing depending on the home’s age.
