CLARENDON TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The pilot of a 1958 Mooney aircraft had to make an emergency landing in a Calhoun County cornfield on Wednesday morning due to engine failure.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says the 54-year-old pilot from Moab, Utah had to put the plane down at about 10:36 a.m. in the 21000 block of R Drive South in Clarendon Township.
The pilot was found at the scene and was reported to be uninjured. He told deputies that he had recently bought the aircraft in the Grand Rapids area and was flying to an airfield near Bryan, Ohio, when the engine malfunction took place.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team assisted in finding the landing site.
The Federal Aviation Administration was notified and will be conducting its own investigation into the incident.
