KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The first day of school may not be until the end of the month but Kalamazoo Public Schools officials are urging parents to start getting their children geared up and ready.
Kalamazoo superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade says that includes getting them enrolled, if they aren’t already.
Several local organizations in Kalamazoo will be handing out free back to school supplies before school begins on the 26th.
Trustee Takisha Johnson had this to say.
Trustee Yvonne Payton says the Family Health Center on the north side will be holding their back-to-school bash today.
Trustees also said parents taking their children to the back-to-school celebrations can also help students get excited about going back to school.
Behind the scenes this week, new teachers have been going through orientation and over the next few weeks other staff will begin to report back in preparation for the fall term.
