CENTREVILLE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Former St. Joseph County deputy Chad Spence will become the county’s new sheriff.
Spence won the Republican primary yesterday, beating five others including Undersheriff Jason Bingaman.
He is 50 and retired from the sheriff’s office after 25 years. Spence lives in Three Rivers, and graduated from Mendon High School and Ferris State University.
St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite did not seek a second term after his drunk driving arrest in Kalamazoo County and remains suspended. Governor Whitmer has not responded to a request from the county to fire Lillywhite.
