KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County emergency manager Mike Corfman has retired.
Corfman was the county’s emergency manager for nearly six years following a career that included being the Portage Fire Department’s training officer, Texas Township fire chief for 18 years, Comstock Township fire chief, and 30 years with the U.S. Coast Guard.
He says he is shocked and amazed that there were no deaths from the EF-2 tornado that hit the city of Portage and Texas and Pavilion townships on May 7.
Corfman says his most memorable event of his career was being deployed to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
