BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A Battle Creek firefighter was injured on Tuesday night while battling a house fire in the 200 block of Hunter Street.
The fire was reported just after 5:00 p.m.. Battle Creek Fire Department crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the eaves and rear of a single-story, wood-frame family dwelling.
They were informed of possible victims trapped inside the structure but no one was found following a search.
Fire officials report that while crews were performing fire control and a primary search for victims, a firefighter passed out inside of the structure and a mayday was called.
Crews quickly removed the unconscious firefighter who later regained consciousness outside. The firefighter was then taken to Battle Creek Bronson Hospital by LifeCare Ambulance and later discharged.
After getting the fire under control, crews performed overhaul work to make sure the rest of the structure was extinguished.
Damages were estimated at $65,000. The fire is currently under investigation by the Battle Creek Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Division.
