COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A child was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash in Kalamazoo County’s Comstock Township Saturday afternoon.
Just after 2:00 p.m. members of the
Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a personal injury
accident at the intersection of South Sprinkle Road and Comstock Ave/Lake
Streer in Comstock Twp.
Once on scene they determined that a vehicle traveling eastbound on Lake Street disregarded the red light at South Sprinkle Road, continued through the intersection, and was struck by a vehicle that was
northbound, who had the right of way on South Sprinkle Road.
The driver and lone occupant of the northbound vehicle received minor injuries due to the collision.
The Sheriff’s Office says the at-fault vehicle that was traveling eastbound was occupied by three individuals. The driver and adult passenger of that vehicle were being treated for minor injuries.
The third occupant of the at-fault vehicle, a five-year-old child, was transported to local hospital with critical injuries.
The KCSO says speed does appear to be a factor in this accident. It is still under
investigation.
Anyone that may have witnessed this accident or has additional information is asked to contact the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office or Silent Observer.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Comstock
Township Fire Department and Life EMS.
