PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s been a bumpy few years in Portage, but their City Manager has received good grades for the way he handled things.
Last year there was a citizen uprising over proposed new housing in the Lake Center district, and there were questions about the legitimacy of a city council member’s qualifications going into fall elections. This spring the city was hit by a tornado.
This week the Portage City Council went into closed session to evaluate Patrick McGinnis’s performance, judging him in ten specific areas.
Mayor Pro-Tem Jim Pearson headed up the evaluation sub-committee and said McGinnis scored 4.22 on a five point scale when all the grades were averaged.
Pearson says that means he has earned a bump in his paycheck, with the council voting to approve 5% hike that will bring his annual salary to $220,500.
McGinnis has held the position in Portage for just over two years. He previously was the City Manager in Grand Haven.
That is quite the salary for being Patty Randall’s yes man. I hope their agenda doesn’t end up ruining too many nice Portage neighborhoods. Its all about Property Tax money for them.
