KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Former Kalamazoo Township Manager Dexter Mitchell has pled no contest to a charge of willful neglect of duty as a public officer.
Mitchell pled no contest Monday.
He had been charged with one count of felony eavesdropping after he had left a recording device in a private and closed session meeting between the township attorney and township board members in March of last year.
Mitchell later went back into the room and retreived the device.
He will be fined the maximum of $1,000 but not serve jail time.
The judge says there will be additional costs and court costs added to that when he is sentenced on August 30.
Mitchell was put on leave as Kalamazoo Township manger in April 2023 when Michigan State Police began a ten-month investigation.
He was fired after being charged. Mitchell was Kalamazoo Township manager from 2016 until being put on leave.
