COLON, MI ( WKZO AM/FM) – A water rescue team had to pull two people from a rain swollen creek in St. Joseph County Friday.
At 11:36 a.m. Colon Community Fire and Rescue was dispatched as mutual aid with Leonidas Fire to assist with a water rescue emergency.
Colon Fire, along with St Joseph County Dive Rescue, and Mendon Fire provided boats to locate and rescue five individuals in the Nottawa Creek off the St. Joseph River.
Due to the strong current from the elevated water levels and the amount of deadfall in the creek, the rescue crews say they had an extended response time reaching the individuals.
By the time they arrived, three of the five had made it safely to shore on their own and the two remaining individuals were removed by the water rescue team.
No injuries were reported.
