KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools trustees have selected someone who can hit the ground running to fill a vacancy on their board.
They picked, someone who is not only knowledgeable about the workings of the district, but used to do it for a living, as a former teacher, principal and assistant superintendent of KPS.
Board president Ti’Anna Harrison announced the results of the board tally.
Harrison said all of the applicants did well in the interviews and could get another shot at a board seat of their own in just a few months.
Payton says she has a great deal of experience working in urban school districts.
She will be sworn in and take her seat for the first time next Thursday evening at the Board’s next regular meeting.
Payton will serve out the term of Jermaine Jackson, who resigned last month, with just six months left in his term.
