KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 37-year-old man from Kalamazoo will serve between 7 and 22 and a half years in prison for a crash that killed two people on a motorcycle.
Jory Wiersma was sentenced this week in the deaths of 69-year-old Jeanette Barraia and 68-year-old Calvin Olinger, both of whom were from Kalamazoo.
Wiersma pled no contest to two charges of operating while intoxicated causing death and to being a habitual offender. Charges of reckless driving causing death were dismissed in the plea deal.
He was driving fast and passing another vehicle when he hit the motorcycle head-on. The crash happened July 20, 2022 in the 9000 block of Douglas Avenue in Cooper Township.
