SCHOOLCRAFT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Starting Monday another road construction project in Kalamazoo County will cause more travel headaches.
Beginning July 15, the Michigan Department of Transportation will close US-131 in each direction south of Schoolcraft to rebuild a railroad crossing. The work is part of the two-year, $51 million project to rebuild and repave 13.4 miles of US-131 from the Rocky River in Three Rivers to Shaver Road in Schoolcraft.
US-131 will be closed from Monday, July 15, through Monday, July 29, with southbound traffic detoured via U Avenue, 8th Street and XY Avenue, while northbound traffic will be detoured via XY Avenue, Portage Road and U Avenue.
After the railroad crossing is rebuilt, southbound US-131 will reopen while the northbound detour remains in place as the project moves into the next scheduled phase of work.
The total cost of the US-131 project is $35.3 million.
