KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Officials with the City of Kalamazoo say they are preparing for potential heavy rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Beryl.
The National Weather Service predicts rainfall arriving Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening will bring 2 to 4 inches of rainfall, with a potential for 5 to 6 inches in some areas.
The City’s Emergency Management, along with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, and with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Services, say they are preparing for potential impacts and gathering information from the National Weather Service.
City officials and KDPS plan to share information such as weather updates, road closures, areas of flooding, and other possible impacts on social media and through 311. KDPS will continuously monitor the situation and has staged water rescue equipment should it be needed. Public Services will stage barricades and traffic control where necessary, and crews will work overnight to clear drains and close roadways impacted by flooding.
The City of Kalamazoo is asking that everyone exercise caution during their evening and morning commutes, try to avoid flood-prone areas, and never move or drive around barricades. Anyone who encounters flood water while walking or driving should stop and find another route.
