KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Public Schools board will waste no time picking a replacement for Jermaine Jackson, who resigned last month.
They plan to meet this evening to go through the list of candidates, just a day after the deadline for applications, and decide which they will interview. The interviews will take place Thursday and a choice will likely be made.
State law gives the board until Saturday to fill the vacant seat.
Jackson asked that the board consider hiring another Black male to replace him, a request that board president Ti’Anna Harrison will apparently ignore.
In a printed statement she says “The Board is committed to an open and fair process. The Board will thoughtfully review every application and will abide by all state and federal laws in the selection.”
Both special meetings will be open to the public, and aired on Public Media Network.
