KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Today is the last day for anyone interested in a temporary appointment to the Kalamazoo Public School board to submit their application.
Trustee Jermaine Jackson decided to forgo the final 6 months in his term, leaving the seat open.
In his resignation announcement, he asked the board to consider replacing him with another black male.
It’s no secret that’s the demographic with the lowest graduation rate and test scores in the district.
Whether or not they will get an applicant that will fit the bill, or whether it’s appropriate to consider race and gender in the selection process, is something yet to be determined.
Whoever they pick may get a head start on running for a term of their own this November. Jackson’s term ends on December 31st.
