KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The family of a Kalamazoo man killed in a two vehicle crash Sunday has set up a GoFundMe fund to raise money for the man’s wife and four sons.
Dan Savage died at the scene of the accident when the car he was driving was broadsided by a pickup truck south of Holland in Allegan County’s Fillmore Township.
Savage’s wife Chelsea and their three sons, Mason, Parker, and Levi, were all taken to local hospitals with varying degrees of injuries. According to Savage’s cousin Joe Josten, who is organizing the fundraiser, Mason and Parker sustained devastating head injuries. He says Mason’s prognosis is poor and Parker’s condition remains unclear. Levi and Chelsea’s injuries are less severe, but they still require medical attention.
First responders were dispatched to the intersections of 136th Avenue and 58th Street just after 1:00 p.m. That was where the westbound sedan apparently drove through a stop sign and was hit by the northbound truck, which had the right of way on the two-way stop.
The pickup driver was unhurt.
The GoFundMe page initially listed the goal as $75,000, but it has since been increased to $250,000. Josten explained in a Thursday post that the needs of the family will be greater as the extent of their injuries has become clearer. As of Friday morning, about a tenth of that goal has been pledged.
