KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo city officials are pleading with residents to support downtown businesses.
It can be a challenge just to get downtown with all the construction going on.
City chief operating officer Laura Lam acknowledged that fact at last night’s city commission meeting.
Mayor Dave Anderson says he is concerned because both the Park Street Market and its affiliated grocery, Midtown Fresh, have been isolated from the neighborhoods they serve by construction.
He joined vice mayor Jeanne Hess in asking residents to make the effort to support local retailers.
Downtown shopper Kelly Doyle says she is worried.
This is just the beginning of what could be a four-year marathon of one major construction project after another downtown.
They created a driving nightmare downtown for business. They don’t support business, Why should we. I drove through there yesterday. It is hazardous. Craziness. This commission belongs in the asylum.
