Ascension says accidental malicious file download led to cyberattack

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Ascension officials say an employee accidentally downloaded a malicious file they thought was legitimate and that led to a cyberattack.

The attackers did not get access to the electronic health records.

Which patients had their data stolen and what data was affected are not yet known.

The hospital system has been dealing with the cyberattack for several weeks.

Borgess Ascension Hospital is among the facilities impacted.
