PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 90-year-old U.S. Army veteran has been awarded an honorary diploma by Portage Public Schools.
Bob Bonhomme was supposed to graduate in 1951 but dropped out of school to support his family and was drafted to the Army at 19, got married, raised four kids, and worked at a papermill for 40 years.
The school district honored him for his service to the country and for his accomplishments with the honorary diploma last night.
His daughter-in-law Diane Bonhomme went to district officials to ask them to award him the honorary diploma.
