KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two men are charged with drug dealing after at least six people died and ten were hospitalized in Kalamazoo County last April 12 and 13 from using cocaine laced with fentanyl.
U.S. Attorney Mark Totten says using illegal drugs is very dangerous with the risk of fentanyl.
James Smith, also known as Yola, has been charged with distributing fentanyl and cocaine from April 2022 to February 2024, leading to the death of at least one victim, and faces life in prison if convicted.
Patrick Martin has been charged as an accomplice for using a cellphone to distribute the drugs that caused the death of the same victim and could be imprisoned for up to four years if found guilty.
