KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s never too early to start educating a child. That’s one reason kindergartners at Milwood Elementary in Kalamazoo participated in a Promise signing ceremony this week.
56 members of the class of 2036 and their parents participated in the ceremony to exchange a Promise that if the kids do the work, the Promise will fund college tuition.
Principal Craig LaSuer says it gets the students off to the right start.
Bob Jorth, the director of the Promise, told the packed gym that this is his favorite day of the year.
He says the Promise isn’t just for college – it also funds skilled trades training.
Each future first grader in Kalamazoo Public Schools will receive a certificate suitable for hanging to serve as a reminder.
