KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Tonight, Kalamazoo city commissioners are expected to formally accept a $12.2-million federal transportation grant to help pay for the conversion of Kalamazoo and Michigan avenues from one way to two-way operation this evening.
That will cover about half of the estimated total cost of the project, $24.8 million.
Transportation Department documentation requires the work be done by September of 2030, Public Works director James Baker says they hope to have it done in the next 4 to 5 years.
That’s if everything goes as planned.
The first project in the “Streets For All ” downtown master plan begins next week, when heavy equipment will begin tearing up MichiKal St.
