KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Irving S. Gilmore Foundation does more than just bring great musicians to town.
Kalamazoo’s Department of Public Safety has just received a $98,000 grant from the foundation to hire a second crime analyst.
Chief Dave Boysen says such experts are key to fighting crime, and making sure the bad guys are successfully prosecuted.
He says their current analyst has a full plate after a couple of bad years for homicides in Kalamazoo.
Boysen says successful prosecutions can have a deterrent effect on crime.
He says so far this year shooting incidents have been cut in half from last year, and 30% from the year before.
It’s a digital age and he says it takes digital cops to keep up.
