PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Three tornadoes have been confirmed to have hit southwest Michigan Tuesday night, with the largest being a strong EF-2 tornado that hit Portage.
The tornado was on the ground for 22 minutes and crossed 11 miles from Texas Corners northeast nearly to Morrow Lake with wind speeds of 135-miles-an-hour and Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is thankful people heeded the warnings.
An EF-1 tornado was on the ground for eleven miles in Dowagiac to south of Decatur with wind speeds of 95-miles-an-hour, and the third was another EF-1 tornado that hit south of Union City in Branch County for a mile with 95-mile-per-hour winds.
A fourth possible tornado in Branch County in Sherwood is still under investigation.
Between 16 and 20 people suffered minor injuries. Hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed.
