KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Ascension hospitals in Michigan have been victims of a cyber attack. Those include Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Ascension Borgess-Pipp Hospital in Plainwell, Ascension Allegan Hospital in Allegan, and Ascension Borgess-Lee Hospital in Dowagiac.
The hospital system says it is working with cybersecurity consulting company Mandiant to investigate and try to figure out what – if any – information was compromised.
Employees noticed computer network problems around 7 a.m. Wednesday and the Detroit Free Press reports the system was shut down. That means they have no access to medical records, labs, radiology or X-rays, and don’t have the ability to place orders.
One doctor tells the Free Press is has become like the 1980s and 1990s, which they have training for, but adds it is “much more cumbersome.”
Ascension says if their investigation finds sensitive information was affected, they will notify and support those individuals “in accordance with all relevant regulatory and legal guidelines.”
