KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – With the filing deadline this past Tuesday, the ballot is now set for the August 6 primary in Michigan, and there are a number of contested races in the Kalamazoo County area.
Democrat Sheriff Richard Fuller is unopposed in the primary, but Sabrina Pritchett-Evans and James Charon will vie for the Republican nomination to challenge Fuller in November.
Republican voters will decide between Kathleen Olmsted and Emily Crawford to challenge Democrat County Clerk Meredith Place in the fall.
Democrat Kalamazoo County Treasurer Thomas Whitener is also unopposed in the August primary, with Pamela Herbert and Dale Shugars on the Republican ballot to challenge him in November.
Michigan State House of Representative races are also on the ballot, with one area incumbent facing a primary challenge. 42nd District incumbent Matt Hall is being challenged fellow Republican Rich Cutshaw, with Austin Marsman on the Democrat ticket.
In the 40th District, Democrats Matt Longjohn and Lisa Brayton and Republican Kelly Sackett are all looking to replace incumbent Christine Morse, who is running for the Kalamazoo County 9th Circuit Court seat.
In the 41st District, Democrat incumbent Julie Rogers is on the ballot, along with Republicans Terry Haines and Nicole Sabel.
There will be no primary challenge in the 45th State House District, with Republican incumbent Sarah Lightner squaring off with Democrat Doug Murch in November.
