OKEMOS – MI — An Okemos High School graduate has been crowned Miss Michigan 2024.
Alma Cooper, 22, won the crown on Sunday, according to a report in the Lansing State Journal. She will now compete for the title of Miss USA in California.
Cooper is a 2019 grad of Okemos HS and is currently attending Stanford University in California where she is pursuing a master’s in stats. She also is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point.
She is the “first active-duty Army officer” to be chosen as Miss Michigan, according to the LSJ report.
“Service comes in many forms and my only limitations are the ones I accept,” she wrote in her competition essay. “This has been my guiding credo, an unshakeable belief that has fueled my path as an Afro-Latina woman from a predominantly white, rural Midwestern town, to compete as the first active-duty Army officer in Miss Michigan USA.”
