SPRINGFIELD, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A crash on Tuesday morning on West Dickman Road near North Helmer Road in the City of Springfield involving a semi tractor trailer grain truck and a commercial box truck caused a spill of between 75 and 100 gallons of diesel fuel.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says the grain truck was making a left turn it was hit in the passenger side by the commercial box truck.
The collision caused the fuel tank on the grain truck to rupture and spill diesel fuel into the road.
A passenger in the box truck was treated for injuries by Springfield Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance Paramedics.
Because of the diesel spill, the E.P.A. was notified. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management, Springfield Fire Department and Patriot Spill Response coordinated clean-up of the spill.
The Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team and Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Unit assisted in the accident reconstruction.
Traffic in the area was disrupted as the spill was cleaned up.
