PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 21-yeae-old Portage man was killed Sunday afternoon after his motorcycle crashed into an SUV that apparently turned in front of him.
The accident happened around 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of Oakland Drive and Ridgefield Avenue.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a Toyota SUV being
driven by a 77-year-old Portage woman was traveling northbound on Oakland Drive and attempted to turn left onto westbound Ridgefield Avenue.
Police say the Portage man was
operating a Suzuki sport motorcycle southbound on Oakland Drive at a high rate of speed and crashed into the Toyota SUV as it was turning.
The man was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries.
Portage Department of Public Safety accident reconstruction and lab personnel responded to the crash scene and are conducting the investigation.
Oakland Drive was closed between Haverhill Avenue and Romence Road for several hours for the investigation.
