BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A 43-year-old Battle Creek man has been charged in connection with a murder on Spencer Street early Tuesday morning.
Thomas James Knickerbocker was arraigned in Calhoun County District Court Wednesday afternoon on five charges including counts of open murder and assault with intent to murder.
Knickerbocker was ordered held in the Calhoun County Jail without bond. A preliminary exam was scheduled for May 3.
Battle Creek Police say they responded to a report of a shooting in the first block of Spencer Street shortly before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived they found two victims inside a home with apparent gunshot wounds.
Life-saving measures, with assistance from Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare, were given to both victims, however, 47-year-old Clayton Holt of Battle Creek was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other victim, a 34-year-old Battle Creek woman, was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
