KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Parks Department is poised to open its newest park following another successful year of operations.
Director David Rachowicz says they are finishing up final demolitions and utilities work at the Wollam Nature Preserve in Texas Township, a 212 acre former Boy Scout camp.
Like all county parks operations, no tax dollars are being used to fund the new facility. They rely on fees, grants, donations and the accommodations tax.
Rachowicz told the county board in his annual report this week that this weekend 10,000 soccer players will descend on River Oaks park for a tournament, and last weekend the Grand Rapids Comic Con was once again held at the Epic Center.
Rachowicz says there were events going on at the Epic Center 90% of the weekends in the past year, and they hope to be even busier in the coming year.
