KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo city commissioners took two more steps in expanding the city’s “Streets for All” program last night.
They approved a contract to add bike lanes to Lovell Avenue, to link the Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College campuses with downtown.
They also hired a consultant to come up with a safety action plan, both first steps in the larger project, which is being funded by a federal grant.
In a lengthy briefing during yesterday’s afternoon session, city engineer George Waring said they aren’t just trying to make life easier for pedestrians, it’s really a matter of life and death.
