BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A Battle Creek man was formally charged on Monday in Calhoun County District Court with killing his girlfriend.
33-year-old Tommie Heard was arraigned on two charges including a count of open murder in connection with the stabbing death last Friday night of 28-year-old Morgan Schug in the 200 block of West Pitman Avenue.
Heard is being held without bond. A preliminary exam has been scheduled for April 29.
Battle Creek Police said over the weekend that a second victim was taken to a local hospital for assault injuries.
Police were called to the scene at about 11:30 p.m. Friday night.
They found a man with blood on his hands at East Emmett Street and North Wabash Avenue who was identified as Heard.
Meanwhile, Schug’s sister has started a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising $11,000 to help pay for funeral expenses.
