BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 28-year-old woman is dead and a 33-year-old Battle Creek man is in custody, following a stabbing on Pitman Avenue late Friday night.
Battle Creek Police arrived on scene shortly after 11:30 p.m. to the 200 block of West Pitman Avenue, responding to a report of a 28-year-old female victim who had been stabbed.
As officers entered the area, they saw a man running near the intersection of East Emmett Street and North Wabash Avenue with blood on his hands.
Some of the officers stopped to check on the man and gather information. Other officers that had arrived on Pitman Avenue made contact with several adults, and a few children, who had come out of the home.
As police continued to gather information on Pitman Avenue, the home was checked for the reported
female stabbing victim.
Officers located and identified the female stabbing victim as 28-year-old
Morgan Schug. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, after live-saving measures had been
attempted.
Battle Creek Police say a second victim
was treated and transported by LifeCare Ambulance to a local hospital for assault injuries.
As the investigation continued, police determined that the man they had come into contact with at Emmett Street and Wabash Avenue, was the boyfriend of the victim.
The 33-year-old Battle Creek man was taken into custody, as a suspect in the incident, and transported to a local hospital for injuries.
Police say it was further determined that the suspect did not live at the victim’s house and that they have no
children in common.
The suspect is currently being lodged for open murder.
Battle Creek Police say no further information will be released at this
time and the suspect’s identity will not be confirmed until after his arraignment.
