KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Ground has been broken on a project to build three tiny homes in Kalamazoo for people who are struggling to secure housing.
The 400-square-foot homes will be built for people turned away by landlords for substance use disorders or their criminal record.
Kalamazoo County Housing Director Mary Balkema says there is “no shortage of folks that need housing who are in this situation,” and says they will be able to fill the homes many times over.
The county’s Homes for All millage gave the project $300,000 and the homes are expected to be built by the end of the summer.
