BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is confirming a hunter killed a gray wolf in a legal coyote hunt with a guide in January in Calhoun County.
The hunter had thought it was a large coyote but genetic testing confirmed it was a wolf.
It was the first time a gray wolf had been seen in the area since the early 1900s.
The DNR says gray wolves are now “confined almost exclusively to the Upper Peninsula” and it is not yet known if the hunter will face any charges.
