KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Kalamazoo couple are facing involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of their six-month-old daughter in December 2023.
Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting says 40-year-old Jose Roldan Jr. and 29-year-old Ladesha Powe admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking heavily before they fell asleep on the couch with their baby girl on December 12.
Getting says video from a living room camera shows the little girl kicking and crying as she was wedged between her father and the couch.
When Roldan woke up around 8 a.m. on December 13, he noticed their daughter stuck between the seat and the back cushion and was not breathing. Powe was holding the baby when she fell asleep, and the little girl fell from her arms and got wedged between her 300-pound father and the couch.
