EAST LANSING, MI — Detroit Mercy didn’t have to look for for it’s next men’s basketball head coach. The school says it has hired Michigan State University assistant basketball coach Mark Montgomery for the position.
The hire ends the search for a new head coach since Detroit Mercy fired Mike Davis last month. Davis was head coach for six seasons, and the Titans were epically bad going just 1-31 this past season.
This is not Montgomery’s first head coaching gig. Montgomery, who turned 54 this week, was head coach at Northern Illinois for 10 seasons, from 2011-21, posting a 126-179 record. He joined the MSU staff in 2022.
