KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It is opening day for Kalamazoo Central High School at the new Jeter Family Fields.
The Maroon Giants are taking on Loy Norrix High School this afternoon at 4 p.m.
The new baseball and softball fields were built using $5 million from Kalamazoo Central alumni and Baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation along with The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and Kalamazoo Public Schools.
Ceremonial first pitches on the softball field will be done by Sharlee Jeter for softball and Dr. S. Charles Jeter for baseball. She is Derek Jeter’s sister and the president of the Turn 2 Foundation, and he is Derek’s father and the vice chair of the Turn 2 Foundation Board of Directors.
