LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed a nine-bill package that overturns the nation’s last ban on paid surrogacy.
The ban was put in place in September 1988 and Whitmer says the bills are “the most pro-family thing” that lawmakers have gotten done, and added “they have gotten a lot of good stuff done.”
Right to Life of Michigan released a statement saying Whitmer is trying to “mislead voters with the fantasy that IVF, prenatal care and abortion are at risk in Michigan.”
Whitmer says Right to Life of Michigan has filed a lawsuit trying to overturn Proposal 3, which passed in 2022 to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution.
